Job Description

Safely operates feed truck with capacity of more than thirty (30) tons transporting materials to and from specified feed mill and farm destinations, possibly including tandem trailers.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

SAFETY

* Wear seatbelt anytime vehicle is in motion

* Safely operate tanker-type tractor/trailer unit with high center of gravity

* Follow required and recommended safety practices and procedures

* Report all accidents promptly through proper authorities.

* Wear appropriate PPE in designated areas.

OPERATIONS

* Successfully complete a Road Test and be issued a certificate

* Properly Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspect the equipment

* Work in single driver environment

* Handle shipping documents to insure accuracy and timely submission

* Position equipment properly to safely offload feed into feed bins

* Drive day/night in variety of climates and traffic

* Use on-board computer

* Maintain logs, DVIR, itinerary, and other paperwork as required

* Fuel equipment and extract on-board computer (or turns in logs) daily

* Pre-load trailer for next shift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able to pass DOT physical upon initial hire

* Must be able to climb ladders occasionally

* Must be able to shovel and clean up feed spills that occur from time to time and able to lift 50 # without difficulty

COMMUNICATIONS

* Complete all required information on the CDL Driver Application For Employment

* Be able to read and speak the English language

* Be able to understand highway traffic signs and signals

* Be able to respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records

* Handle shipping documents to insure accuracy and timely submission

* Use Farm Directions Book, maps or GPS to avoid getting lost or going out-of-route

* Be able to converse with our business associated to resolve problems in a civil manner

* Be able to calculate simple mathematical problems dealing with feed delivery

COMPLIANCE

* Comply with all Bio-Security (BMS) and Environmental (EMS) management system's rules and regulations

* Comply with DOT rules and regulations

* Comply with all Smithfield established policies and procedures

* No DOT Recordable preventable accidents within the last three (3) years with a CMV

* No more than one (1) moving violation within the last three (3) years

ADDITIONAL:

* Maintain professionalism when using communication devices

* Keep company equipment clean and secure lose objects in the cab

* Exhibit professional appearance and positive attitude at all times

* Other duties may be assigned.
